2019 Land Rover Defender Quietly Announced

Almost as soon as the last Land Rover Defender was built in January, 2016, the company announced plans to redesign and reintroduce one of the world's most iconic SUVs. This vehicle remained popular as it was able to walk the fine line between 70 years' worth of tradition and the new technology demanded by drivers. There's at least one difference we can live with: when it returns for the 2019 model year, the Land Rover Defender will be available at your Indianapolis, IN Land Rover dealership for the drivers that have been awaiting its return to the states.

The Land Rover Defender traces its lineage to the very first Range Rover, which debuted in 1948. It's been a mainstay for adventurous souls the world over, but it's also served royalty and the armed forces of several countries. While it hasn't been available in the US since 1997, it's never left the popular imagination.

Prototypes of the 2019 Land Rover Defender are already out and about in the United Kingdom. All indications are that the sheet metal will look a lot like the classic Land Rover we already know and love. What lies beneath, however, will be much different. At least some of the vehicle's architecture, as well as some of its powertrain options and tech, will be borrowed from the current Land Rover Discovery and Land Rover Discovery Sport.

One thing remains certain. The Land Rover Defender will retain the off-road DNA that made its predecessor a legend. Its fans would accept nothing less, and -- it turns out -- neither will Land Rover.

While the 2017 Land Rover Discovery is stealing the spotlight right now -- deservedly so -- it will have to make room for some company in years ahead. Land Rover will be diversifying its product line soon, and the Land Rover Defender will lead the way just as it did from its debut in 1948. Visit Land Rover Indianapolis to speak to a dealer about this upcoming vehicle or to see what’s currently in stock and ready to test drive!
