Test Drive the 2016 Land Rover Discovery Sport

When the Land Rover Discovery Vision concept made its first public appearance at the 2014 New York International Auto Show, it was important for a couple of reasons. First, it was smaller -- and especially, sportier -- than its predecessors. It also marked the beginning of a new Land Rover Discovery sub-brand, and with it, a new direction for the company; the Discovery unit would subtly shift emphasis, keeping the luxury for which Land Rover has become known, but also signaling a return to its off-road roots. The 2016 Land Rover Discovery Sport available at Land Rover Indianapolis represents the transition from concept to reality.

2016 is the second model year for the Land Rover Discovery Sport, which replaced the Land Rover LR2 in the 2015 model year. After a series of redesigns on the Range Rover side of the family, the Land Rover Discovery Sport lets us know that the Land Rover side won't be left out in the cold. Its exterior is minimalist in the best way possible -- there isn't a single line out of place, and nothing feels overdone or extraneous -- and the tasteful interior follows suit, with everything in its right place.

That philosophy continues under the hood. All trim levels (SE, HSE, HSE Luxury) feature four-wheel drive, and are powered by a 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 240 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. That engine is paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Standard features include Terrain Response, Hill Descent Control, stability controls, rearview camera, rear parking sensors, a 5 inch TFT instrument cluster, and Land Rover InControl with an 8 inch full-color display. This may be a compact crossover, but its feature set is anything but small.

Other developments are in the works for our Indianapolis, IN customers in the 2017 Land Rover model year, including a seven-seat Range Rover Discovery taking the place of the Land Rover LR4, and the likelihood of some new design elements and new technology on the Land Rover Discovery Sport. For now, though, the 2016 Land Rover Discovery Sport has plenty to offer luxury SUV enthusiasts in and around Indianapolis. We invite you to Land Rover Indianapolis -- located at 4620 East 96th Street in Indianapolis, IN, and just a phone call away at 855-263-8905 -- to see this luxury crossover for yourself, and to schedule a test drive.
